Sonata
Sonata for Clarinet and Piano
Camille Saint-Saëns
Performed by Joe Dombrowski, clarinet - Clinton Adams, piano

The first two movements come from my original recital, and the other two from the second one this April. This piece shows off the main strengths of the clarinet: lyricism and technique. I hope I have done this work justice.

Three Pieces
Igor Stravinsky
Performed by Joe Dombrowski

This is the second excerpt from my recital, and is a very interesting piece by Igor Stravinsky. Written in 1919, this work takes advantage of the two main clarinets' discrete timbres. The first and second movements were written for the A clarinet, a darker sounding instrument for a more somber tone. The third movement is a playful and rhythmic excursion more suited to the Bb instrument.

Three Pieces
Shepherd on the Rock
Der Hirt auf dem Felsen
Franz Schubert
Performed by Joe Dombrowski, clarinet - Heather Kniotek, soprano - Clinton Adams, piano

Translated from German, the title means The Shepherd on the Rock. This is a piece I've wanted to perform for years now, but never had a soprano to play with. This year, I was recruited by Heather Kniotek to play this piece for her chamber music class, and absolutely fell in love with her voice. Listening to this will be a real treat.

Contrasts
Béla Bartók
Performed by Joe Dombrowski, clarinet - Adrienne Geisler, violin - Clinton Adams, piano

This is a chamber music piece by the great 20th century composer, Béla Bartók. Like his best known work, Concerto for Orchestra, Contrasts features irregular rhythms, with difficult passages as well as competing instrumentation. Contrasts is a fantastic work in the clarinet repertoire, and this performance features me on clarinet, one of my best friends Adrienne Geisler on violin, and Clinton Adams on piano.
